CROWN COURT

PLACES OF SITTING OF THE CROWN COURT AND DATES FOR TAKING PLEAS AND COMMENCEMENT OF TRIALS DURING 2010/2011

 

 

BELFAST CIRCUIT

 

The Crown Court shall sit continuously at Laganside Courts, 45 Oxford Street, Belfast for taking pleas and conducting trials from Tuesday 24th August 2010 to Friday 3rd September 2010 and thereafter at Laganside Courts as aforesaid and as required at the Royal Courts of Justice, Chichester Street, Belfast and the Old Townhall Buildings, 81-91 Victoria Street, Belfast during sittings of the High Court, in accordance with such directions as may be given by the Lord Chief Justice and shall sit on such other days as the Lord Chief Justice may direct or approve.

 

Jurors in each panel for the Crown Court sitting for the County Court Division of Belfast shall commence service at Laganside Courts on the following dates:-

1.        Crown Court arraignments shall be listed on such days as the Crown Court Judge and Chief Clerk may fix.

2.        The District Judge’s Civil Bill Review Callover shall be listed on such days and at such venues as the Chief Clerk shall fix.

 

Payments Into Court by a defendant under Order 21 of the County Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1981 or, by a Respondent under Rule 4 of the County Court (Criminal Damage Compensation) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1983 or, under Rule 5 of the County Court (Criminal Injury to the Person) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1988 shall be made by lodging the desired sum with three copies of the lodgement documentation in the Public Sector, Bank of Ireland, 4-8 High Street, Belfast, BT1 2BA either to the credit of the ‘Civil Bill Account’ or the Criminal Injuries Account’ as the case may be.

 

* This sitting is only for Appeals, from any Petty Sessions District within the County Court Division, where the appellant is in custody or where the appeal is urgent.

Please note that Ballymena Courthouse will close with effect from Friday 2 July 2010 due to essential maintenance work.  It will reopen on Monday 4 April 2011. As a result opening week normally heard at Ballymena will take place at Antrim. Crown and County Court business will be listed between Antrim & Coleraine.

 

1.        Crown Court arraignments shall be listed on such days and at such venues as the Crown Court Judge and Chief Clerk may fix.

2.        The County Court Judge and/or District Judge’s Civil Bill Review Callovers shall be listed on such days as the Chief Clerk shall fix.

3.        Crown Court trials may be heard at Antrim and/or Coleraine (Ballymena when available) at the direction of the Crown Court Judge.

4.        Small Claim hearings by the District Judge at Antrim, Ballymena, Coleraine and Larne will be heard at 10:30am on such days as the Chief Clerk shall fix. Small Claims are processed at Ballymena Courthouse.

5.        Criminal Injury/Criminal Damage Appeals for the Division of Antrim are processed at Ballymena (at Coleraine during closure) and will be heard at Antrim Courthouse on Thursday 26 August 2010, Thursday 4 November 2010, Thursday 13 January 2011, Thursday 10 March 2011 and at Ballymena Courthouse on Thursday 12 May 2011.

6.        Undefended Divorce Petitions and all petitions relating thereto are processed at Coleraine and Ballymena Courthouse and shall be heard on such days and venues as the Chief Clerk shall fix.

Divorce Petitions, Interlocutory Applications, Minors’ Petitions, Minors’ Payments Out of Court and any other such miscellaneous applications to the Court.  

 

NOTES:

 

1.        Crown Court arraignments shall be listed on such days and at such venues as the Crown Court Judge and Chief Clerk may fix.

2.        The District Judge’s Civil Bill Review Callover shall be listed on such days as the Chief Clerk shall fix.

3.        Crown Court trials may be heard at Omagh, Enniskillen, or Dungannon at the direction of the Crown Court Judge.

4.        Small Claim hearings by the District Judge at Omagh, Strabane, Enniskillen and Dungannon will be heard at 10:30am on such days as the Chief Clerk shall fix.  Small Claims are processed at Enniskillen Courthouse.

5.        Criminal Injury/Criminal Damage Appeals for the Division of Fermanagh & Tyrone will be heard at Omagh courthouse on Wednesday 8 September 2010, Friday 7 January 2011 and Thursday 5 May 2011. Criminal Damage/Injury Appeals are processed at Omagh Courthouse.

6.        Undefended Divorce Petitions and all applications relating thereto are processed at Dungannon Courthouse and shall be heard on such days as the Chief Clerk shall fix.

7.        The Judge may appoint other days for Adoption hearings.

 

Payments Into Court by a defendant under Order 21 of the County Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1981 or, by a Respondent under Rule 4 of the County Court (Criminal Damage Compensation) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1983 or, under Rule 5 of the County Court (Criminal Injury to the Person) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1988 shall be made by lodging the desired sum with three copies of the lodgment documentation in the Public Sector, Bank of Ireland, 4-8 High Street, Belfast, BT1 2BA either to the credit of the ‘Civil Bill Account’ or the Criminal Injuries Account’ as the case may be.
