NI Court of Judicature Rules Committee Publication Scheme

Role of the NI Court of Judicature Rules Committee

The NI Court of Judicature Rules Committee is an executive statutory body established under the Judicature (Northern Ireland) Act 1978 ("the 1978 Act").

The NI Court of Judicature Rules Committee, under sections 55 and 55A of the 1978 Act, has functions conferred on it in relation to the making of rules of court with respect to the pleading, practice and procedure in or affecting, and the forms used in connection with, any proceedings before the High Court and the Court of Appeal or any division, office, judge or officer of either such court or any person appointed by, or to assist it.

The NI Court of Judicature Rules Committee, in order to make rules, must submit them to the Lord Chancellor for him to allow or disallow.

Section 54 of the 1978 Act sets out the statutory composition of the NI Court of Judicature Rules Committee and specifies who shall be Secretary to the Committee.
