Her Majesty the Queen has appointed Geoffrey Biddall Miller QC to be a County Court judge in Northern Ireland. The judge was sworn into office before the Right Honourable Sir Brian Kerr, the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, on Monday 11 May 2009.
Mr Miller was educated at Queen’s University Belfast. He was called to the Bar in September 1983 and took Silk in 2006. Mr Miller became a member of the Bar of Ireland in February 1996. From 1984 until 2003, Mr Miller practiced in a variety of areas within the legal profession including criminal law, common law and personal injury. From 2003 he has focused primarily on criminal law.
Mr Miller was appointed to the office of deputy Resident Magistrate in October 2002 (the name of this office was subsequently changed in June 2008 to deputy District Judge (Magistrates’ Courts).
