CROWN COURT

PLACES OF SITTING OF THE CROWN COURT AND DATES FOR TAKING PLEAS AND COMMENCEMENT OF TRIALS DURING 2015/2016

 

 

BELFAST CIRCUIT

 

The Crown Court shall sit continuously at Laganside Courts, 45 Oxford Street, Belfast for taking pleas and conducting trials from Monday 7th  September 2015 to Friday 2nd September 2016 and thereafter at Laganside Courts as aforesaid and as required at the Royal Courts of Justice, Chichester Street, Belfast and the Old Townhall Buildings, 81-91 Victoria Street, Belfast during sittings of the High Court, in accordance with such directions as may be given by the Lord Chief Justice and shall sit on such other days as the Lord Chief Justice may direct or approve.

 

Jurors in each panel for the Crown Court sitting for the County Court Division of Belfast shall commence service at Laganside Courts on the following dates:-

Payments Into Court by a defendant under Order 21 of the County Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1981 or, by a Respondent under Rule 4 of the County Court (Criminal Damage Compensation) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1983 or, under Rule 5 of the County Court (Criminal Injury to the Person) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1988 shall be made by lodging the desired sum with a copy of the lodgment documentation in Danske Bank, Donegall Square West, Belfast BT1 6JS. Cheques should be made payable to the Accountant General.

7.        Appeals from Magistrates’ court shall be listed as follows:-

a)        1st day of the Appeals – For appeals against sentence only, appeals where the appellant is in custody, and urgent appeals;

b)       2nd day of the Appeals – For appeals against conviction and sentence; and

c)        3rd day of the Appeals – For domestic and youth appeals.

The following matters shall be listed at the discretion of the Chief Clerk at 10.00am on such days and at such venues which are suitable to the Court:

Divorce Petitions, Interlocutory Applications, Minor’s Petitions, Minor’s Payments Out of Court and any other such miscellaneous applications to the Court.  

 

NOTES:

1.        Crown Court arraignments shall be listed on such days and at such venues as the Crown Court Judge and Chief Clerk may fix.

2.        The District Judge’s Civil Bill Review Callover shall be listed on such days as the Chief Clerk shall fix.

3.        Crown Court trials may be heard at Omagh, Enniskillen, or Dungannon at the direction of the Crown Court Judge.

4.        Small Claim hearings by the District Judge at Omagh, Strabane, Enniskillen and Dungannon will be heard at 10:30am on such days as the Chief Clerk shall fix.  Small Claims are processed at Enniskillen Courthouse.

5.        Criminal Injury/Criminal Damage Appeals for the Division of Fermanagh & Tyrone will be heard at Omagh courthouse on Friday 4 September 2015, Friday 11 December 2015, Friday 12 February 2016, Friday 8 April 2016, Friday 10 June 2016 Criminal Damage/Injury Appeals are processed at Omagh Courthouse.

6.        Undefended Divorce Petitions and all applications relating thereto are processed at Dungannon Courthouse and shall be heard on such days as the Chief Clerk shall fix.

7.        The Judge may appoint other days for Adoption hearings.

8.        Crown applications, arraignments and Civil business may be listed week commencing Monday 22 August 2016,  as the County Court Judge and Chief Clerk may fix.

 

Payments Into Court by a defendant under Order 21 of the County Court Rules (Northern Ireland) 1981 or, by a Respondent under Rule 4 of the County Court (Criminal Damage Compensation) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1983 or, under Rule 5 of the County Court (Criminal Injury to the Person) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1988 shall be made by lodging the desired sum with a copy of the lodgment documentation in Danske Bank, Donegall Square West, Belfast BT1 6JS. Cheques should be made payable to the Accountant General.

 

* This sitting is only for Appeals, from any Petty Sessions District within the County Court Division, where the appellant is in custody or where the appeal is urgent.
